Hardware through the ages
22nd October 2024
With a far-reaching history that spans over 150 years, our products have found themselves in all manner of homes and properties across the decades. Because of this, we relish any chance we get to be involved in projects that are rooted in history and telling the stories of yesteryear.
The Museum of the Home
Earlier this year we were approached by Todi and Boys Joinery to supply the window furniture for an upcoming project with the Museum of the Home.
Our products are playing a part in telling the story of the Delinskys – an East London Jewish family, living in a tenement flat in 1913.
As was common in the 1910s, the Jewish tenement flat features single pane sash windows. In line with the popular designs of the time we supplied Straight Arm Sash Fasteners, Cast Sash Lifts, and Square Edge Sash Pulleys, all in a Polished Brass Unlacquered finish which naturally patinas over time to create a beautiful aged finish befitting 1913.
Jason, Project Manager at Todi & Boys said:
The Real Rooms project seeks to tell the stories of normal families through time, as told by item-by-item recreations of their homes. The Real Rooms exhibit features rooms ranging from a hall in 1630 that would have housed servants through to a near-future imagining of a converted flat in 2040.
Historical Homes
Thanks to our own history, and a deep appreciation for hardware through time, we are proud to offer period-accurate and period-adjacent hardware alongside our more contemporary offerings.
The Queen Anne Cabinet knob offers a decorative option that would feel at home alongside the highly ornate designs that characterised designs from the 16th to 19th century as much as it would in a hand-crafted traditional kitchen.
In the same vein, Octagonal and Crown Door Knobs are elegant and associated with a myriad of hardware styles whilst still remaining versatile and timeless.
Rim locks add elegance to any doors, but particularly Victorian and Edwardian styles, and our Décor Collection reflects the highly decorative and patterned hardware that characterised the stately homes of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Our far-reaching and versatile portfolio is the key factor in us having the opportunity to be a part of historical projects such as the Real Rooms exhibit and we are proud to have supported such an important project.
